Historic
Byberry Cottage, built in the mid
1850's, rests quietly on the picturesque western
bank of the Susquehanna River with views of
Otsego Lake. Byberry Cottage was originally built
for the two daughters of James Fenimore Cooper.
Of Gothic Revival architecture, the original
cottage, housed the parlor, dining room, master
bedroom, study and bath. The kitchen was located
in the basement. In l915-16 the addition was
built of brick and frame and is currently covered
with clapboarding. This addition features a
kitchen, den, workshop and dark room on the main
level. There are five bedrooms and two baths on
the second level. The servant's quarters were
located on the third (attic) level.
This once exquisite, pristine cottage sits on
almost 1/2 acre and features 300 feet of direct
river frontage. There is an additional adjoining
one acre lot with this property.
